bonfire night bevvies

ree

Bonfire Night is fast approaching so here are a trio of our favourite warming drinks. Serve them huddled by the fire to make the most of all the autumnal feels.

Smoky Martini

A twist on the classic gin martini, this recipe adds some peaty whisky for a rich finish.

• 50ml Gin

• 10ml Dry Vermouth

• 5ml Whisky

Stir the ingredients in a mixing glass with ice, strain and serve in a cocktail glass garnished with an orange twist.

Flame of Love

Created for The King of Cool, Dean Martin, this will appeal to those of you who like your cocktails with a touch of drama.

• 5-10ml Fino sherry

• 50ml Vodka

• Three orange twists

Swirl the sherry around a cocktail glass and discard. Flame two orange twists over the glass. Shake the vodka with ice and strain into the glass. Garnish with the remaining twist.

To flame the twist, pinch it peel side down over a lit match to ignite the oils. NB This works best with unwaxed oranges.

Hot Buttered Rum

A lovely way to round off your bonfire celebrations, this easy and delicious hot rum recipe ticks all the boxes.

• 1tbsp Soft brown sugar

• Half tsp ground nutmeg

• 1 tsp ground cinnamon

• 100ml Dark Rum

• 2tbsp Melted unsalted butter

Mix the sugar and spices in a jug, slowly pour over the rum and melted butter and stir until mixed well. Divide between two heatproof glasses. Top with boiling water and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
